Omar Lateef
Omar Lateef is an accomplished musician and educator in classical and jazz music. He serves as Teaching Assistant Trumpet Professor, University Brass Choir Director, and Area Coordinator for Winds, Brass, and Percussion at the Wertheim School of Music, Florida International University. He has performed in concert tours and Broadway shows, collaborating with artists like Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Kurt Elling, Julie Andrews, and Arturo Sandoval, and has guided students to prominent positions in music and academia.
Kris Johnson
Kris Johnson is a Detroit-based trumpeter, composer, arranger, and educator whose work spans orchestral commissions, musical theatre, film scoring, and contemporary jazz. His recent orchestral commission Marlowe’s Wings premiered with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2025, and his music can also be heard in the Emmy-nominated series King Ester. Kris has contributed to seven GRAMMY-nominated albums - including the 2024 GRAMMY-winning Basie Swings the Blues - and spent more than a decade touring as a soloist and arranger with the Count Basie Orchestra. He has collaborated with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Tony Bennett, Leslie Odom Jr., Wycliffe Gordon, and Endea Owens.
Kris currently serves as Assistant Professor of Jazz Trumpet at the University of Michigan and is the founder and director of the Paradise Theatre Big Band in partnership with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
