Omar Lateef
Omar Lateef is a professional trumpeter and educator whose work bridges classical and jazz performance. He serves on the faculty at Florida International University, where he teaches trumpet, directs the University Brass Choir, and coordinates the Winds, Brass, and Percussion area.
As a performer, Omar has appeared in concert tours and Broadway productions, collaborating with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Terence Blanchard, Kurt Elling, Julie Andrews, and Arturo Sandoval. As a teacher, he is deeply invested in helping students build reliable technique, musical confidence, and long-term sustainability in their playing, with many of his students going on to successful careers in performance and academia.
Kris Johnson
Kris Johnson is a professional trumpeter, composer, arranger, and educator whose work spans orchestral music, jazz, musical theatre, and film. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Jazz Trumpet at the University of Michigan and is the founder and director of the Paradise Theatre Big Band in partnership with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Kris’s work as a performer and arranger has contributed to multiple GRAMMY-nominated recordings, including the GRAMMY Award–winning Basie Swings the Blues. He spent more than a decade touring internationally as a soloist and arranger with the Count Basie Orchestra and continues to balance an active professional career with a deep commitment to teaching clarity, craft, and musical understanding.
